Seniors Free FAQ

Are seniors really free?

Yes! In February, guests ages 65+ must present a valid photo ID at the entrance to receive complimentary admission. Admission is valid that day only at the Safari Park. Parking is not included.

When is Seniors Free at the Safari Park?

The entire month of February is Seniors Free month at the Safari Park. Guests ages 65 and older with a valid photo ID receive free admission all month long. Parking is not included.

What about parking? Is it free or discounted in February?

No, parking is not free and is paid for upon arrival. General Parking costs $20 per vehicle. Our lot is large, and the walk to the entrance may be significant depending on where you park. We also offer Preferred Parking, which offers closer proximity parking to the entrance for an additional $25–$35, depending on the date.

Accessible Parking: Spaces for disabled placard holders are available but fill quickly during Seniors Free month. The General Parking Fee of $20 does apply for Accessible Parking spots.

Bus/Coach parking is available on a limited basis for $55.

Certain memberships include parking. Check your membership benefits or upgrade today for this added perk.

What should I expect at the Safari Park?

The Safari Park is a walking safari experience in a large, natural setting. Wildlife live in expansive habitats, and most are reached via pedestrian pathways. On average, you may expect to walk between 2–4 miles during your visit, often over hilly terrain. Comfortable walking shoes, water, sunscreen, and a hat are highly recommended.

Is the park accessible for guests with mobility concerns?

All pedestrian paths are accessible and can accommodate mobility devices. Please reference our Accessibility Guide: https://sdzsafaripark.org/guests-disabilities for additional information.

How can I get around the park if I can’t walk very far?

The pedestrian pathways of the Safari Park span 700 acres. Shaded rest stops and dining areas provide good places to take breaks along the way.  For our guests with limited mobility, here are a few options to assist you during your visit:

  • Accessibility Shuttle with Two Stops: Safari Base Camp (entrance area) and Okavango Outpost (near the Africa Tram). Please be aware that wait times can exceed 30 minutes. Capacity is limited.
    • Please note: We do not offer vehicle transport through pedestrian areas.
  • Wheelchair & Scooter Rentals: Available near the entrance on a first-come, first-served basis, and often sell out early. Guests may also bring their own approved mobility device.
Are there other ways to see the Safari Park besides walking?

The Safari Park is primarily a pedestrian environment, but there are several opportunities to enjoy wildlife while taking a break from walking:

  • Africa Tram (included with admission): A narrated tour and view of the savanna from the perimeter of the multi-species habitat. The tram boarding area is a 2/3 mile downhill walk from the entrance. Queue wait times can exceed 90 minutes during peak days. Preferred Boarding with a shorter wait time is available for an additional fee.
  • Safari Excursions (additional cost, reservations required): Enhance your visit and explore the Park with an expert guide! We recommend the Wildlife Safari to travel in the back of a covered, open-air safari truck into our expansive savanna. Or, consider our Cart Safari or Behind-the-Scenes Safari, which explores the Park by golf cart, but does require some walking.
  • Other than these options, the Safari Park is primarily a pedestrian environment.
Can I visit the San Diego Zoo for free instead of the Safari Park?

No, Seniors Free is only valid for a complimentary 1-Day Pass to the Safari Park during the month of February. Senior guests must be ages 65+ and show a valid photo ID at the entrance to enter for free. Parking is not included.

Can I bring a guest with me for free?

Yes, if the guest is ages 65+ and shows a valid photo ID at the entrance during the month of February. Guests younger than age 65 require a valid form of admission or membership.

Can I bring a group of seniors?

Yes, group visits are welcome! Go to the Contact Us page to provide your information, and we will be happy to assist you with arranging your visit. Please note the $55 parking fee for bus parking. Bus parking is limited and bus drivers should be prepared to park offsite if our lot is full.

Can I go free multiple times?

Yes, guests ages 65+ with valid photo ID may enter the Safari Park free every day during the month of February. Parking is not included.

If I’m a senior and I have a membership, can I bring someone free in my place?

No. Memberships are nontransferable. Guests must be ages 65+ with a valid photo ID to enter the Safari Park free during the month of February. Guests younger than age 65 require a valid form of admission or membership. Members are welcome to bring a guest using their guest admission coupons.

Are there senior discounts on safari experiences?
