Endangered Species Stamp Sale

When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Safari Base Camp

The U.S. Postal Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service showcase the fourth semipostal tiger stamp that benefits wildlife conservation. Proceeds from the sale of the special Save Vanishing Species stamp go directly to conservation efforts for tigers and other species. Collect all five special cancellations including rhino, tiger, great ape, sea turtle, and elephant.

Smartphone Endangered Species Scavenger Hunt

When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Park-wide

Find the QR Code tiger signs hidden throughout the Park and scan them with your smartphone to win prizes. You could even win the grand prize: a Behind-the-Scenes Safari to meet our big cats up close.

Historical Photo Display

When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Safari Base Camp

From a lone sign in San Pasqual Valley to a thriving haven for conservation and adventure, explore a photo display of the Safari Park through four decades. From construction to working with animals like white rhinos and California condors to additions like African Outpost and Lion Camp, it’s amazing to see how the Park has grown!

Endangered Plant Station

When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Plant Trader, Safari Base Camp

Learn about the threatened and endangered plants at the Safari Park. Check out our 40-year-old plants and how we curate our collections, and purchase your own plant grown by our horticulturists to support Safari Park horticulture.

Robert the Zebra

When: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the half hour
Where: Flightline Plaza, Nairobi Village

Have you ever talked to a zebra? Robert, our resident know-it-all, will amaze you with his knowledge of endangered species and will share his favorite animal jokes! Rumor has it that Robert also can help you with the Endangered Species Scavenger Hunt.

Gorilla Enrichment

When: 9:15 a.m.
Where: Gorilla Forest

Join us as our keepers share their insights into the gorillas’ daily lives and relationships, and see these gentle giants enjoy some very special treats.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park Internal Conservation Committee

When: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Where: Safari Base Camp

The Safari Park's "Green Team" will display key conservation issues that affect our plant collections, including pollinator decline and introduced plants species. Kids can make conservation cootie catchers, learn how they can make a difference, and earn "Green Team" magnet giveaways.

Park 40th Anniversary and Endangered Species Day Opening Ceremony

When: 10 a.m.
Where: Lawn near Okavango Outpost, African Outpost

Join Joan Embery as she takes you down memory lane to relive some of the Safari Park’s most exciting moments. Joan will share some amazing animal ambassadors and introduce a special guest that will make a historic announcement. Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Safari Park Historical Tour

Food Web Game: We Are All Connected

Guests of all ages are invited to play an interactive game to learn more about a food web of African animals and how we are all connected in this web of life.

Interactive Endangered Species Station

With a Park educator, discover the lesser-known endangered species that live at the Safari Park through hands-on biofacts.

Tigers: Keeper Presentations

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Tiger Exhibit, Tiger Territory

Join us for excellent views of our tigers along with tiger training demos, tiger enrichment activities, keeper presentations, and a broad overview of tiger behavior and conservation information.

Condors: Keeper Presentations

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Condor Exhibit, Condor Ridge

A condor keeper will share stories about the condor recovery program. In addition, you'll get to see a condor hand puppet used to feed and care for condor chicks. Examine condor flight feathers and see how we use artificial eggs to give breeding condors incubation experience.

Endangered Species Conservation Activity

When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Safari Base Camp

Play some fun games to earn prizes, while learning more about the research being done at the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research as well as San Diego Zoo Global Wildlife Conservancy’s conservation efforts worldwide. Participate in a current research project on endangered species perception and contribute to important conservation science!

Saving Endangered Species: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Safari Base Camp

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will share its work with endangered species in San Diego County and beyond.

Animal Encounters

When: 11:30 a.m.& 2:30 p.m.
Where: Animal Ambassador Stage, Safari Base Camp

Join Safari Park Animal Ambassador Rick Schwartz as he shares with you some amazing endangered species from around the world.

Adopt a Tiger and More

When: Noon to 4 p.m.
Where: Safari Base Camp

Love tigers? Are you willing to take one home? Stop by our Tiger Adoption booth and symbolically adopt one of these critically endangered cats. Each $15 donation supports our wildlife conservation work as well as our animal enrichment programs at the Safari Park and Zoo. We have a few other lucky animals also up for adoption.
